BEST INTERVIEWEE'S LINE:
"ROBIN HOBB:Well, other than our current world and history, what else is there for a writer to draw on? Writers can claim to make up their worlds and situations from sheer imagination, but really, where does that start? It all starts with what we know. We can invert a situation, or take a historical event and change the triggers to set it off in a different direction, but all writing inspiration has to come from our own world to begin with.
But I never take an actual event, recent or ancient, and then try to change the names, dates, etc and drop it into a book. My plots end up being more like a soup where I can’t really identify the original ingredients as separate historical or political events. The same is true for characters.

But this time, we are giving you the information in order for SAATCHI to discover YOU.
ABSTRACT SHOWDOWN GET YOUR WORK EXHIBITED AT SAATCHI, LONDON!!
Saatchi Gallery has recently contacted us with regards to their next Showdown, the ABSTRACT SHOWDOWN. We'll be receiving more details and dates for the submission of artwork, but it's all going to happen very soon, so here we're giving you the information and thus the chance to start working on your abstract pieces and be more than ready to grab this opportunity.
There's NO LIMIT with regards to medium. All that’s required, is that your work must be considered ABSTRACT in terms of STYLE, when you upload your work to Showdown. In 2010 the site received an estimated 73 million hits a day.
Last month, internationally acclaimed artist Wangechi Mutu judged the final round of the Collage Showdown and selected first place winner, Kelly Susan as well as runner up, Joe Webb, both of whose work is en route to the Saatchi Gallery London for display. You could be next!
Surely, you already know all there's to know about the Saatchi Gallery, but here's some information about its history, just in case:
The Saatchi Gallery is a London gallery for contemporary art, opened by Charles Saatchi in 1985 in order to exhibit his collection to the public. It has occupied different premises, first in North London, then the South Bank by the River Thames and currently in Chelsea. Saatchi's collection, and hence the gallery's shows, has had distinct phases, starting with U.S. artists and minimalism, moving to the Damien Hirst-led Young British Artists, followed by shows purely of painting and then returning to contemporary art from America in USA Today at the Royal Academy in London. In 2008, an exhibition of contemporary Chinese art formed the inaugural exhibition in the new venue for the gallery at the Duke of York's HQ.
The gallery has been a major influence on art in Britain since its opening. It has also had a history of media controversy, which it has courted, and has had extremes of critical reaction. Many artists shown at the gallery are unknown not only to the general public but also to the commercial art world: showing at the gallery has provided a springboard to launch careers.
