It may seem bizarre, perhaps even absurd, and certainly unique, but the fact is that a comedy starring Elijah Wood (‘Frodo’, Lord of the Rings) and an Australian actor with such a natural comedic vein as Jason Gann shows (co-creator of both the original Australian series and the American version), this latter in the role of a pot-smoking dog, sounded exactly like our cup of tea.
May we introduce you to Wilfred? He doesn't bite, unless provoked...

NEW TV SERIES
It may seem bizarre, perhaps even absurd, and certainly unique, but the fact is that a comedy starring Elijah Wood (‘Frodo’, Lord of the Rings) and an Australian actor with such a natural comedic vein as Jason Gann shows (co-creator of both the original Australian series and the American version), this latter in the role of a pot-smoking dog, sounded exactly like our cup of tea.
BBC3 must have thought the same thing since they already made public, in late May, that they had bought the rights to broadcast the series, its opening planned for Autumn in the UK. Wilfred has already been released in the U.S., and as Wonderlance The Magazine is international, we’ve already watched the first episodes.
Wonderlancers in the Estates, only two episodes have been aired thus far, so hurry up because you can still catch up with the show without having to break in a sweat. What? Are you asking us if it's worth catching up with it? Would we be talking about it if it REALLY wasn’t worth the effort? Exactly, this is Wonderlance, baby, not a portal of mashed-up random meaningless stuff. YOU are worth of us making the effort to analyse what’s being fed to the masses through that little box.
And so the original Australian Wilfred series, based on the award-winning 2002 Tropfest short film by Adam Zwar, Jason Gann and Tony Rogers went on to run for three years on SBS One, before FX USA bought the rights and had it adapted to the current American version, by no other than Family Guy veteran David Zuckerman.
In the US version,Wilfred follows a young man named Ryan (Elijah Wood) and his neighbour’s dog Wilfred (Jason Gann). At first Ryan is suicidal, attempting to kill himself several times in the first episode. Ryan's female neighbour, Jenna (Fiona Gubelmann), asks him to look after her dog for the day. Ryan is taken aback as he sees Wilfred as an Australian man in a dog suit, while everyone else sees Wilfred as just a dog. And as we’ve just told you a few paragraphs above… this is no ordinary dog…
The funniest thing about this show is that it contains some pearls of true wisdom wrapped in the most bizarre of circumstances and set ups.
Just like life itself, through the lens of a pot-smoking dog.
