Receiving raves reviews from festival audiences and critics, MOTHER (Maedo) is the new suspense-thriller movie by South Korean director Bong Joo-ho ("The Host").
From what you can watch in the trailer above, the story is focused on a mother and her mentally challenged son, who live together in a small town in South Korea. It is in this small town that the body of a murdered girl is suddenly found on a roof terrace. This mother sees how her son will be charged for the murder of the girl and she will have to do everything in her power (everything a loving mother would do for her son), to prove his innocence.
These universal characters are portrayed, particularly in the case of Kim Hye-ja as the mother, with an unsurpassed acting ability, which expresses an authenticity such to eliminate all idiomatic barriers (although the subtitles are very clear and easy to read) and any cultural shocks.
The story is delivered by Bong with a masterful narrative and its secrets will certainly catch you by surprise.

All what we can say in this space is that, it will not be easy when that happens, and maybe inside you, maybe around you in the film theatre, most probably in both cases, you'll be able to feel the emotion, the shock, the pain, the tension and much more...
Brilliantly written and carefully planned out, the plot is hugely entertaining and fast-paced, with an exhilarating feel to it as it delves into the most puzzling truth.
We are presented with a master of suspense, and this is rapidly felt, from frame one.
The shots of open fields and mystifying landscape are also breathtaking...
Writing anything else about the plot, would be venturing into spoiler territory, something that I, the one writing, personally would not do even to my worst enemy, especially with this movie. My mother, however, it's another story, she would do anything for her children.
