SPLICE
FEATURING EXCLUSIVE
INTERVIEW WITH
JASON BOARD
After a mixed reception from the public in the US and after receiving both the highest accolades and the most hateful critiques, "Splice", the latest film by Vicenzo Natali ("Cube") will land in UK cinemas on the 23rd of July.
This award-winning and award-nominated film (won the prestigious Sitges Film Festival Award to Best Special Effects, nominated for Best Film) is not for everybody's taste, for it is one of those films that, despite being presented as a generic sci-fi horror, with an apparently straightforward script, will surprise you, shock you, disgust you, move you and above all,
it will provoke you to think outside your comfort zone.

the
KARATE
KID
Taking into consideration that The Karate Kid (2010) is a remake of the original 80s' hit of the same title, which provoked an increased interest in all things related to martial arts and oriental philosophies in that and the following young generations, an analysis of the script is rather useless.
We shall focus then in whether, as a remake, this film has achieved to, at least, successfully meet the expectations of the thousands of the original's fans.

SYNOPSIS:
Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb's rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved.
Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible: inception.
Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming.

THE UNTITLED WORK OF
PAUL SHEPARD |
A retired legal attorney writes a novel in order to
find closure for one of his past unsolved homicide cases and for his unreciprocated love with his superior - both of which still haunt him decades later. |
Master sorcerer Balthazar Blake recruits a seemingly everyday guy in his mission to defend New York City from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath. |
Andy Davis (John Morris) is now 17 years old, and is heading off to college in a few days. However, the fact that Andy has grown from a young boy to a teenager has not been lost on a select few: his toys. |
A documentary filmmaker turns the camera on himself to examine the modern day relationship using his own past relationships to guide him. As filming progresses his producer starts to question how much is fact and how much is fiction. |

Sci-Fi
FILMS EVER
Since the first film exhibition near
the end of the 19th century, a countless number of Science Fiction films have been released with many classics made since that historic day. The recent “Transformers” films failed to impress critics, but over the course
of just over a hundred years there have been some which have
impressed more than others, that
can be put in a number of artistic categories.

IRON MAN 2
“Suffering from all the sequel problems”
Whereas the first Iron Man was a breath of fresh air when it came to Superhero flicks, the second fails to deliver on both originality and excitement.
From the start, the film was up against some pretty high expectations, it unfortunately just does not manage to meet them or really even get close to meeting them.
